The US Economy added 209,000 jobs in June, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics Employment Situation “Jobs” report, released this morning.
But, 62,000 of those jobs were in government, which means the private sector only produced 149,000 jobs, one of the weakest results in recent years.
By contrast, government job growth is nearly triple that of last year.
Additionally, the number of people working a second “part-time” job vaulted upwards by nearly half a million to 4.2 million, indicating that Americans are still struggling to make financial ends meet.
“In a healthy economy, government shouldn’t be the job growth leader,” said Andrew Crapuchettes, RedBalloon CEO. “Not only are we adding to the already sky-high national debt, but we’re incurring even more tax burdens to pay for it all, which holds back an economy that’s trying to grow.”
