Freedom Economy Index: Small Businesses React to Trump Indictments.

Following the announcements of the indictments of former President Donald Trump, we have heard from political pundits and politicians from both sides of the aisle, but one perspective that many did not hear from was the perspective of the American small business.

The Freedom Economy Index is a survey tracking the economic and political sentiments of over 50,000 small businesses from RedBalloon and PublicSq. The August survey covered many issues, but one of the prominent ones was how small business owners were reacting to the indictments of President Trump. A key result showed that an immense 91% of respondents said that the former US president is being unfairly prosecuted.

Additionally, the Index showed that the vast majority of these business owners were more likely to support the president. Nearly 65% of respondents said that following the indictments they are now more likely to vote for Trump in 2024.

It is clear from these findings that that these actions taken by the government is driving a growing distrust of the government for small businesses. In fact, in July's FEI survey over 90% of respondents say that the weaponization of government against political opponents is a major issue.

This is compounding to make a more resilient part of the economy as small business owners have cultivated a growing sense of self-reliance and independence, not only in the corporate world, but also in America at large.
